Practice Profile Throughout his career at the Bar Andrew Jackson has practiced principally in the Criminal Courts concentrating in the last 10 years exclusively on military and general criminal matters.
He has developed a specialist practice in the military Courts and has been involved from the start of proceedings in a number of leading cases involving Service personnel in the past 10 years.
He is regularly instructed direct by Service personnel or Regiments based abroad spending around 2-3 months of each year abroad on military cases.
The expansion of operations by British forces resulted in Andrew Jackson being instructed through the Regiment in the first ever case of a British Serviceman being charged before the Civilian Courts of Murder leading to the Crown offering no evidence.
Through another Regiment he was instructed to represent a member of the Provost Staff charged in the Civilian Courts with the first ever discipline fatality popularly reported as the ‘Beasting Death Case’. The Jury acquitted all defendants after a trial lasting 2 months.
He has advised all ranks up to and including Commanding Officers in a number of cases of cross-boundary friendly fire (blue on blue) fatalities in both Operation Telic (Iraq) and Operation Herrick (Afghanistan). All have subsequently resulted in no prosecution of personnel involved.
Throughout his years acting in the criminal courts he has prosecuted cases of all levels of severity up to attempted murder and has defended cases including rape and murder.
He has also represented local authorities and private institutions in licensing matters.
Cases during 2009 have included initiation rituals in the Parachute Regiment, Importation of heroin woven in carpets imported from Afghanistan, acting for a senior Major accused of lewd behaviour in decompression, kidnapping and drugs supply across the Midlands.
All work is made available via electronic format in Word Format; he is available via blackberry and mobile phone in this country and abroad.
Andrew is qualified to accept instructions under the Bar Council Public Access Scheme.
