Practice Profile Rebecca has a busy common law practice.
Criminal
Rebecca regularly prosecutes and defends in the Crown Court, and has conducted trials and appeals against conviction and sentence in cases involving a wide range of criminal offences including burglaries, robberies and other dishonesty offences, assaults, public order offences, possession of offensive weapons, drugs offences and sexual assaults. She also has experience of confiscation hearings.
Rebecca has undertaken two secondments with Revenue and Customs, the first as part of the disclosure team in a Court of Appeal case, the second in the Prosecutions Office as a prosecuting lawyer responsible for a large number of drug importation, excise evasion, VAT and fiscal marks cases.
Rebecca is on the Attorney-General’s C List of prosecuting counsel and is a Grade 2 prosecutor for CPS London.
Prison Law
Rebecca has conducted a number of independent adjudications involving allegations of possession of unauthorised articles, disobeying lawful orders and failed MDTs. She has also represented prisoners at parole hearings and lifer reviews and has provided written advice in prison matters.
Civil
Rebecca's civil practice encompasses a variety of hearings in the County Court in personal injury, housing, contract, debt, road traffic and credit hire cases, and includes a successful appeal to a Circuit Judge.
Rebecca is also regularly instructed in inquests, both before the Coroner alone and in cases involving a jury.
As well as appearing in Court, Rebecca drafts pleadings and provides written advice in a range of civil matters.
Rebecca is qualified under the Public Access to Barristers Scheme.
Local Authority
Rebecca has represented local authorities in possession claims, including a five-day Multi-track hearing against an unrepresented defendant suffering from mental health problems, homelessness appeals, a Residential Property Tribunal case, applications under the Enterprise Act, injunction applications and licensing applications. As well as conducting hearings in these matters, Rebecca regularly provides written advice and drafts pleadings.
She has also prosecuted on behalf of local authorities in both the Crown and Magistrates’ Courts in a range of matters including benefit fraud, 'fly tipping' and littering offences, ASBO applications, breaches of Noise Abatement Notices and Enforcement Notices, and offences under section 444 Education Act 1996 and section 198A Housing Act 1985.
Rebecca also acts as legal advisor to Independent Appeal Panels in school exclusion appeals.
