Probationary tenancy (Third 6 pupillage)

We are actively seeking ambitious probationary tenants who are seeking a career in one of our specialist practice areas.

5 Pump Court is a friendly and supportive set which is ambitious and looking to expand. We have a surplus of work across all of our key practice areas, and are keen to recruit promising junior barristers who have completed 12 months' pupillage and are looking for the right set for tenancy.

We welcome applications from those who want a specialist practice in any of our key practice areas, as well as those who want to have a mixed practice. We are also open to applications from those looking to change their main practice area, and have previously accepted applications from those looking to move into a new area of law and have then provided the training they require to do this.

We treat probationary tenants as future junior tenants. Successful applicants can expect to hit the ground running from day 1, with lots of advocacy opportunities, a wide variety of work and the chance to get involved in Chambers life! We have a very supportive junior Bar, and our staff team will also help you to settle in and support you with marketing and regular practice review meetings.

We believe in a healthy work life balance, and understand that our members work best when they have time to spend with friends and family outside work, and to pursue their own interests. We also provide frequent opportunities to take part in chambers-wide events including social meets; outreach work; charity initiatives; and marketing events. Our staff members all operate an open door policy where members are encouraged to be in contact to discuss any issues which arise.

We provide many opportunities for marketing and networking and support members at these events. We expect members to be committed to marketing, but do not expect you to do this alone. You will be supported by our staff team, and particularly our Chambers Director who takes a lead on all marketing initiatives.

If you would like a confidential discussion before applying, please contact our Chambers Director Clare Kelly on 020 7632 7859 or by email at clarekelly@5pumpcourt.com

In order to apply, please provide:

  • CV;
  • Covering letter, including details of why you want to come to 5 Pump Court and an outline of how you see your career progressing;
  • Details of your diary and payments received during Second 6.

We will organise an interview promptly and aim to make decisions quickly in order to give as much certainty as possible. We have a good rate of retention and look to make the move from probationary to junior tenancy a seamless one!

We welcome applications from those who are currently under-represented at the Bar, and provide a welcoming community. If you require reasonable adjustments, please contact our Chambers Director so that we can ensure that those are put in place. Please note that our Chambers is Grade 1 listed and currently not suitable for wheelchair users, but we are happy to discuss the implications and an alternative interview venue if necessary.
