Biography
Tristan is an experienced criminal barrister who prosecutes and defends a range of criminal offences, including serious violence and murder, sexual offences, drug offences, money laundering and fraud.
He has a particular specialism in motor vehicle crime including car ringing, drink driving and other motoring offences. He undertakes private Magistrates’ court work in motoring offences only, and is the first choice of Counsel for clients facing these allegations.
Tristan is highly knowledgeable, delivering clear and straightforward advice and forceful advocacy. He acts in the Crown Courts and the Court of Appeal. He is experienced at dealing with long running trials. He has also acted in numerous trials where there is significant media interest often where there is a high profile Defendant.
Crime (prosecution)
Tristan is an experienced prosecutor, dealing with allegations of violence including homicide, public order offences and non-fatal assault. Other allegations of violence that he has experience of prosecuting include gang violence, kidnap and extortion, sexual violence, sexual assault and abuse.
Tristan prosecutes all types of drug offences including importation. He also deals with theft, fraud, money laundering, and other dishonesty offences.
Tristan is particularly known for his expertise in motor vehicle crime including car ringing, road rage, causing death or injury by dangerous or careless driving, and other driving offences.
Crime (defence)
Tristan defends clients accused of serious and often violent crimes. He has acted in murder cases, particularly where there are complicated factual or legal issues – such as joint enterprise murder allegations, baby shaking, kidnap, torture, extortion, blackmail and witness intimidation. Tristan also acts in cases of sexual violence including rape and sexual assault, and has experience of obtaining acquittals where the 'victims' were pressurised into giving false evidence, or had given false evidence in previous similar cases.
He defends in all cases involving allegations of theft, receiving and handling stolen goods, fraud and money laundering. He also defends those accused of drug offences, and has obtained acquittals in cases where defendants have been set up. Tristan specialises in driving offences and is able to act for Defendants facing allegations in respect of motor vehicle offences including totting up, disqualification and drink driving. Notable cases include one of a car ringing scam by serving police serjeant who used underworld connections to steal nearly new cars. After a 3 month trial, Tristan's client was the only defendant of 6 who was acquitted.
