Assistant Practice Manager (maternity cover)

We are recruiting an Assistant Practice Manager to cover a maternity leave starting in May 2024. The anticipated length of the leave is 12 months.

5 Pump Court is a progressive, diverse multidisciplinary set and are looking for someone organised and energetic who can be a part of our continued success.

Our ideal candidate will have experience of clerking across a range of areas of law, with an interest in long term clerking in civil and family cases particularly. You will work closely with our Practice Managers, including covering for them when they are away from Chambers. This position would be ideal for someone who has experience of clerking and is looking to step up from a junior role and take on greater responsibility.

We are looking for the following:

  • A proven track record in clerking, particularly diary management;
  • Good organisational and time-management skills and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines;
  • The ability to build effective working relationships with clients and members, and to work well in a small staff team;
  • Enthusiasm for business development, and ideally some experience of participating in marketing events;
  • Good spoken and written communication skills.

In addition, we expect the successful applicant to have IT skills such as Word, Outlook, and Excel (we work on MLC but can provide training on that platform).

We offer a competitive salary of £35,000 (more may be available for an exceptional candidate)), flexibility (including the ability to work from home on an occasional basis) and the opportunity to take your career to the next level.

To apply, please send your CV and covering letter setting out why you are suitable for the role and highlighting relevant experience and personal qualities to Clare Kelly, Chambers Director at clarekelly@5pumpcourt.com by 9am on Monday 29 April 2024. If you would like an informal discussion before applying, please call 020 7632 7859.

If you require reasonable adjustments, please contact our Chambers Director so that we can ensure that those are put in place. Please note that our Chambers is Grade 1 listed and currently not suitable for wheelchair users, but we are happy to discuss the implications and an alternative interview venue if necessary.
