The 2025 annual lecture explores the complex intersections of identity, ownership, and jurisdiction in private international law, using the case of Shani v Ozekhome [2025] UKFTT 01090 (PC) as a lens into the legal and institutional challenges posed by crossborder authentication, property and conflict of title. It examines the impact on foreign legal systems responding to Nigeria’s current private international framework and considers the urgent need for Nigeria to safeguard international legal cooperation and property rights for its citizens and other stakeholders.
