Expert reports

Expert reports are often required in respect of children who are moving jurisdiction, often in order to be cared for. Children who are subject to care proceedings may have a potentially suitable carer abroad who is willing to be considered as a guardian. In order to safeguard the child, the court will want confirmation that the potential carers are suitable and that there will be protection in place in the country that they move to.

Similarly, if children are coming into the UK to live with parents and carers here, the Court will want comfort that any adoption which has taken place abroad meets the requirements of UK adoptions law, and that there is no risk of child trafficking.

We can provide expert reports addressing these points in certain circumstances. Abimbola Badejo is dual qualified in England and Wales and Nigeria, and is often called upon where children are coming in or out of Nigeria. Dr Onyoja Momoh is able to provide expert advice on cases where the Hague Convention is engaged (or not engaged), and the outcome as a result of that.
