Children law (public)
We have a large and well known team representing clients in care proceedings. Our members are regularly instructed by Local Authorities, children (both those who are the subject of the proceedings and other siblings), parents, other family members, guardians, prospective Special Guardians and adoptive parents. We have a huge amount of experience in dealing with all aspects of these cases, from the first interim care orders, to complex and lengthy fact finding hearings, to final hearings determining the future for the child and their family.
Cases involving children are emotional as well as being legally complex. Our team has expertise in dealing with cases involving all aspects of abuse: physical; emotional; sexual; and neglect. We have particular strength in acting in cases where there are allegations of non-accidental injury; factitious or induced illness; sexual abuse; parental alienation; and psychological damage to children. We also have a lot of experience in international cases, where children are either being taken out of or into the country in order to be cared for.
Our barristers are skilled at dealing with such allegations in a manner which is assertive but appropriate to the sensitivities of the case. They are used to dealing with cases involving multiple parties, and to communicating with both lay clients and other legal teams in order to manage the litigation effectively.
