Biography

Abru is an experienced advocate with an excellent track record of court appearances and providing advice to clients. She is an articulate communicator who is persuasive in front of judges but also able to work closely with solicitors and lay clients to quickly build rapport. Abru brings solid skills in legal and factual submissions in a contested, adversarial context.

Abru specialises in family law, particularly cases involving children. She takes pride in demonstrating a thorough knowledge of each case, and is able to quickly assimilate the facts and apply them to the relevant law. She communicates with her clients well providing considered advice in a way which is easy to understand.

Abru also has a background in immigration law so is able to effectively represent clients with cross-border issues.

Children law (private)

Abru specialises in cases involving children and has experience in dealing with all applications under the Children Act 1989 including those relating to the residence of children, contact arrangements and other issues such as change of name and passport issues. She has experience of all of the applications and hearings which arise in private law disputes, as well as advising on enforcement.

Abru is very personable and works well with parents facing extremely stressful circumstances as well as those in cases where there are allegations of domestic violence. She remains calm under pressure and is able to carefully and considerately advise her clients on the best way forward.

Children law (public)

Abru has experience of representing parents in cases involving allegations of non-accidental injury; neglect and domestic abuse; and concerns around substance abuse. She has acted in cases where there are concerns about parental mental health; and where there are children with special educational needs, disabilities and other complex medical needs. Abru has also advised local authorities, guardians and other family members.

Abru has advised on cases which have an international element and is keen to expand her expertise in this area.

Family finances

Abru has acted in contested divorce proceedings, and also in financial ancillary relief proceedings following divorce. She has acted in cases involving different jurisdictions and contested non-molestation and occupation orders.
