Biography

Emma returned to full time practice at the independent Bar in 2024, having spent time working as an employed barrister, and has quickly built a very busy civil practice. She is the first choice for numerous clients who have contractual disputes, credit hire cases, and property disputes. Emma also has experience in criminal law and so is a natural choice for cases which span the civil and criminal jurisdictions, including regulatory and EPA cases. Emma is very well organised, always on top of her brief, and builds very strong working relationships with clients.

Emma spent many years at Clare College Cambridge as Assistant Bursar and Head of Governance, advising on a wide range of legal issues including property, charity law and employment related issues. Prior to that, she was a Legal Adviser in the Magistrates Court.

Emma is a calm and composed barrister, always very well prepared, thorough and conscientious. She is able to consider disputes in the wider commercial context because of her significant experience in house. She is very pleasant and easy to work with, and careful to explain her advice clearly to lay clients.

Property regulation

Emma's background of a mixed civil and criminal practice makes her an excellent choice for regulatory work which is often prosecuted in the Magistrates Court. Emma is well versed in the rules and procedures of the court as well as having in depth knowledge of civil proceedings.

Emma is familiar with a wide range of regulatory procedures, and is constantly expanding her practice in this area. She welcomes instructions in EPA cases both for landlords and tenants and is available to advise on merits and quantum, as well as to appear in court.

Property litigation

Emma is regularly instructed to advise on a variety of property law, particularly possession and disrepair cases in which she has a lot of experience. She represents landlords and housing associations in court, as well as regularly being instructed to draft pleadings, defences and advice on quantum.

Emma also acts in regulatory cases, particularly EPA cases, which are well suited to her background in civil and criminal work.

Personal injury/credit hire

Emma has a huge amount of experience in personal injury and credit hire cases, and is very familiar with the law and relevant cases in the area. She is regularly instructed in intermediate track and fast track cases, and acts for both claimants and defendants.

Emma is very well prepared, and produces advice, skeleton arguments, orders and attendance notes promptly and efficiently. She has good working relationships with her instructing solicitors, and will always advise on the merits in advance of a hearing particularly where settlement may be possible.
