Biography
Hamsana has a broad family and civil practice. She has experience in all areas of family work, particularly children law (private and public). She is also an experienced civil litigator with expertise in property and commercial law.
Prior to requalifying at the Bar of England and Wales, she practised human rights and commercial law at the Sri Lankan Bar, and also has experience of being an advocate in commercial arbitration proceedings.
Hamsana is efficient, personable and easy to work with. She is particularly good at working with clients who are under a lot of pressure, and who need reassurance and clear, calm advice and representation. Her broad legal training means that she is comfortable with picking up cases that touch on different areas of work or have a wide range of issues to deal with. She is good at putting nervous clients at ease and at inspiring confidence in them.
Children law (private)
Hamsana has a lot of experience of children law matters, from FHDRA and DRA hearings to final hearings of up to 10 days in length. She has also acted in many Issues Resolution Hearings dealing with a wide range of issues such as names, schools, holidays and jurisdiction.
Hamsana has dealt with long fact finding and final hearings and is capable of managing large numbers of documents, witnesses and complex factual disputes. She has experience of dealing with cases involving allegations of physical and emotional abuse and parental alienation.
Hamsana is efficient, personable and good at building effective working relationships.
Children law (public)
Hamsana works primarily for parents, guardians and grandparents in a range of hearings in public children law. She has experience of representing clients in ICO hearings, case management, fact finding hearings and final hearings of up to 15 days.
Hamsana has acted in cases where there are allegations of non-accidental injury, physical abuse, emotional abuse and neglect. She is good at dealing with cases where there is complex legal, factual and medical evidence and at demystifying the legal process for clients.
Family finances
Hamsana has a background in commercial and contract law, and is able to bring her financial understanding to family law. She advises clients about their finances following relationship breakdown, particularly about the impact of the separation on their houses and other property, insurance policies and pensions.
Hamsana accepts instructions in all hearings in financial dispute resolution proceedings including FDAs, FDRs and final hearings. She can also assist with drafting documents, and advising on suitable offers and likely settlement parameters.
Civil and commercial litigation
Hamsana has a strong background in civil and commercial litigation, and in insolvency proceedings.
In insolvency, she has experience of acting for both creditors and debtors in personal and corporate insolvencies and winding up hearings.
She has acted in commercial arbitrations and litigation, and has particularly got experience of construction disputes and share disputes but is also able to advise on any commercial dispute or breach of contract.
Hamsana has a lot of experience in property cases including possession, forfeiture, building disputes and TOLATA cases.
She also represents claimants and defendants in personal injury and credit hire cases on the small claims track and fast track.
Hamsana is calm and reliable, and receives a high level of repeat instructions from solicitors.
