Biography
Queenet is a barrister specialising in family law. She undertook a specialist family pupillage with Chambers, obtaining experience in all areas of Chambers' family work including financial dispute resolution, public and private children law and international family law. She accepts instructions in all of these aspects of family work, and has a particular interest in children law both national and international.
Queenet previously worked as a family paralegal in a specialist family law firm where she managed her own caseload and gained experience representing clients in court hearings relating to domestic abuse and private children law. During her masters degree, Queenet worked with the family law team at the University of Law’s Legal Advice Clinic where she provided pro bono advice and representation in private children’s law proceedings. She also volunteered with a legal charity assisting litigants in persons going through the family court by themselves.
Queenet is experienced at working with vulnerable clients and those who are under a huge amount of pressure, and at providing calm and measured advice. She understands the importance of tailoring her advice to clients to their needs and to ensuring that they understand the law and procedure so that they can make informed decisions.
Children law (public)
Queenet is committed to children law proceedings and is building a busy practice in public children work. She regularly acts for local authorities and parents, and also accepts instructions from guardians.
She has acted in a range of hearings from ICOs and ISOs to fact finding hearings. She is very empathetic and is able to deal with clients who may be very vulnerable or emotional. Ongoing cases include acting for a mother who has mental health issues, and a father accused of causing physical harm to his child.
Queenet is interested in furthering her experience in international work, and is currently representing a father in High Court proceedings where the mother has removed the child from the jurisdiction whilst the child was under an ICO.
Children law (private)
Queenet has acted in numerous private law proceedings, and is building a busy practice in this area. She enjoys the challenge of working with clients to find a sustainable resolution, often in extremely emotional circumstances.
She accepts instructions from parents and guardians in all types of cases, and has represented parties at a wide range of hearings during her pupillage. She has experience of representing vulnerable clients, of cross examining expert witnesses, and of acting in cases where there are disputes between parents and special guardians. For example, Queenet is currently representing a mother with mental health difficulties in private children proceedings, and a parent with physical disabilities who is in dispute with the Special Guardians.
Queenet is also experienced at dealing with cases where there are allegations of domestic abuse. She has represented a number of clients where the final order has included the imposition or extension of a non-molestation order.
Domestic abuse/injunctions
Queenet is frequently instructed in respect of injunctions, particularly where there are allegations of domestic abuse.
Queenet has a lot of experience of representing those seeking non-molestation orders as well as those seeking to resist such orders. She has experience of contested hearings, often over several days, and of successfully arguing that non-molestation orders should be implemented alongside other orders for contact and residence.
Recently Queenet has represented an applicant in an application for an NMO heard over 2 days with 4 additional witnesses in which 4 out of 5 findings were made against the respondent. She has also recently represented an applicant in a contested application to extend an NMO in which the findings she sought were made and the NMO was extended.
Queenet also has experience of other applications such as transfer of tenancy applications, and accepts instructions for occupation orders.
