Chambers Director

We are seeking a new Chambers Director to oversee our business and operations.

This is a varied and interesting job, and includes responsibility for managing a small but effective staff team; shaping the practices of 50 barristers and pupils; developing Chambers’ business, brand and operations; and overseeing Chambers’ finances, governance, recruitment, training and marketing.

This is a role with both strategic and operational responsibilities, and our Chambers Director works closely with the Head of Chambers and Management Committee to propose and implement strategy for the development of Chambers. The successful candidate will also need to have a good understanding of operational issues and ensure that Chambers meets its regulatory and compliance requirements. Experience of working within a regulated profession would be advantageous.

Business development is a key part of the role, and the Chambers Director takes the lead on marketing: managing Chambers’ key clients and working to attract new clients to Chambers. This includes developing marketing plans, organising and attending marketing events, and working with staff to develop new opportunities.

The Chambers Director also acts as a first point of contact for external organisations, contractors and our landlord and should be someone who can build and maintain strong networks with other sets, the Inns, the Bar Council and the BSB. They also have responsibility for negotiating and managing contracts with key suppliers.

We offer a competitive salary circa £100,000. The Chambers Director has an office within Chambers, but there is also the opportunity to work from home regularly if required.
