Fees Clerk
5 Pump Court is a progressive diverse multidisciplinary set with specialist practice teams in family, civil and criminal law. We wish to recruit an experienced Fees Clerk with responsibility for billing and collecting fees, primarily for family group members.
The role includes the following responsibilities:
- General fees clerking for Members, particularly in the family team;
- Billing all family legally aided FAS fee claims;
- Assisting with billing and collection procedures for VHCC family cases;
- Liaising with local authorities to ensure that members are set up on their payment systems, generating invoices and credit notes, and chasing aged debt;
- Chasing collection of private client fees;
- Working with colleagues to develop and implement strategies to reduce aged debt;
- Covering for the Accounts Manager when she is absent, including receipting payments and producing payment summary reports.
We expect the successful applicant to be able to demonstrate the following:
- Experience of fees clerking and managing aged debt;
- An organised and methodical approach to work;
- Good written and oral communication skills in order that you can interact with a diverse range of stakeholders including barristers, solicitors, the Legal Aid Agency, local authority clients and reluctant payers;
- IT skills such as Word, Outlook, and Excel. Chambers works on LEX so experience of that software would be desirably (but training can be provided if necessary.)
In exchange, we offer a competitive salary of at £40,000 (full time), a supportive and welcoming team environment, and the opportunity to work flexibly or part time.
We are based in Middle Temple but operate flexible working arrangements so you can spend part of the week working from home. We are open to applications from those who might want to take on the role on a part time basis.
You will work primarily with the Accounts Manager and another Fees Clerk. Both work remotely and the other Fees Clerk is freelance, covering family high cost billing and criminal defence billing. You will also work closely with the Family Practice Manager who is based in Chambers.
