Mark Eldridge successfully prosecuted Henderson Domingo in a trial at Kingston Crown Court.  Domingo had disguised himself heavily and carried out 8 robberies or attempted robberies at knifepoint of supermarkets in and around Ealing. The robberies took place in January and February 2021, at a time when heavy Covid restrictions were in place, and when the staff of Sainsburys, the Co-op and Tesco were opening the stores for staff. In each case, he threatened the terrified staff before making off with cash and other items.

He had stolen a large number of scratch cards, and was first noticed as a suspect when he tried to claim winnings from a number of those cards. On 27 and 28 January 2021, he visited 4 shops in Ealing to claim winnings of £255 from 27 stolen cards, Police had been alerted about the stolen cards and were tracking claims to see whether they could find anything suspicious.

When he claimed winnings from the 27 cards, it gave detectives a lead which they were able to follow up by using CCTV and other methods. Domingo was then arrested in the process of trying to rob a further supermarket at knifepoint on 25 February 2021. After his arrest, police found a total of £14,881.09 in cash at his home.

After a 3-week trial, Henderson Domingo was found guilty on all 8 counts of robbery/attempted robbery. Mr. Recorder Sangster Q.C. sentenced Domingo to 14 years imprisonment. Counsel was thanked and the officers in the case were both commended by the Judge.

UPDATE: In November 2023 the Defendant’s Application for leave to appeal against his conviction was refused by the Single Judge
